A solitary shepherd walks forward through open country, his flock gathering around him, some close beside him, others moving ahead, a few trailing behind. Eternal Shepherd was built predominantly with a palette knife in acrylic impasto, with granular texture paste worked into the sheep, the grasses and the ground, then finished with an oil paint overwash and ink, inspired by the words “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”, John 10:27.
It was shown at the Echoes of the Earth exhibition at INARA Manor House in July 2026, and more people sought the artist out to speak about this painting than about any other work in the show.

The original painting is still available. It may be seen at Osner Gallery in Hout Bay, and you can order the original here.
A celebration print is released so that a painting can be lived with by more than one person. This one came early, while the original is still at the gallery, because so many people asked for it. As more people acquire a celebration print over the years the standing of the original grows, which is the point of them, and it is also how the work is seen again: when Martin holds a retrospective it is the larger celebration print that hangs on the wall.
- Artist: Martin Osner
- Celebration print, numbered on the print before it is released
- Archival pigment print on fine art paper
- The signature is the artist's own, as painted on the original. A celebration print is never signed again
- 29.5 × 36 cm | 12" × 14", including border, limited edition of 100
- 70 × 83.5 cm | 28" × 33", including border, limited edition of 50
- Sizes are standardised across the collection, so a celebration print is close to, but not exactly, the size of its original
A canvas version of the larger size is being considered. If that is what you would like, write to the gallery and we will let you know when it is ready.

Chosen for the same feeling, not only the same subject.
Is delivery really free?
Yes, on every work, to every country. It travels door to door by air freight, with delivery guaranteed. Insurance is included in the price, and it arrives with tracking.
How is the print made?
On archival pigment inks and heavyweight fine art paper, with a white border that carries the signature. Printed to order and checked by the artist before it is signed.
Is it signed and numbered?
Numbered, yes, each print by hand before it leaves the studio, 100 in the small size and 50 in the large. Signed, but not again: the signature you see is the artist's own as he painted it on the original, printed with the picture. There is no separate certificate, because the record is on the print itself. Turn it over and the back carries the story of the work, the artist's own words, the edition number written in by hand, the size, and where the original now lives.
Is there anything off for more than one?
Yes. Take any three celebration prints in the same size and 20 per cent comes off on its own at the basket, three small or three large, mixed freely across the collection, no code needed. The sizes do not mix, three small and three large in one basket is two lots of three, and 20 per cent comes off both.
How long does delivery take?
Usually 7 to 10 days from order to your door. Your print is made within 48 hours, carefully packed, then sent door to door by air freight, tracked all the way. Some parts of the world are a little quicker, a few a little slower.
Can I have it framed?
Yes, through our framing workshop at the gallery in Hout Bay. Ask the gallery.
What currency will I pay in?
Prices are charged in US dollars. Beneath each price you see an estimate in your own currency, worked out from the dollar price at today's rate. Buyers in South Africa can pay in rand by bank transfer at checkout.
Will I pay VAT or import tax?
No VAT or tax is added to your price. We are not a VAT vendor, so there is nothing to claim back either. Depending on where you live, your country may charge import duty or tax when the work arrives. That is set by your country's customs rules and is out of our hands, so if you are unsure, your local customs office can tell you what to expect.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 14 days of delivery, in the condition it arrived in and in its original packaging, with return shipping at your cost. If it arrives damaged, or it is the wrong work, we replace it or refund you at our cost. See the returns policy.
