west-coast-flowers-namaqualand
West Coast Flowers | Namaqualand

On the west coast of Namaqualand, a stormy winter sky hangs over the Atlantic while a field of yellow flowers bends in the wind. Koos van der Lende let the exposure carry the movement, so the flowers sway and blur beneath the still, dark line of the sea. This is the coast close to the remote farm where Koos lives.

Namaqualand is a winter rainfall desert, kept dry by the cold Benguela Current and fed by Atlantic fog. It lies within the Succulent Karoo, a biodiversity hotspot of some 6,000 plant species, about 40 percent of them found nowhere else, and it has the richest bulb flora of any arid region in the world. After good winter rain, from mid August into September, the veld turns to flowers.

Artist: Koos van der Lende

Signature Collection, limited edition of 25, signed and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity

Only 25 prints will ever be made, across all sizes together.
