A place that feels older than memory, where the only sound is the water.

The Water Pear Tree Collection is Koos van der Lende's tribute to the elders of the riverbank. Water pear trees grow at the water's edge, deeply rooted and slow to change, and in winter, when the river drops, their roots lie bare, twisted and ridged like old leather. Koos set up reflector boards to throw the morning light back into the trees, so each one stands lit as if on a stage. He then gave the series the look of a photograph from the early 1900s, sepia toned with aged, torn edges, to honour the age, the character and the quiet wisdom these trees carry.

“I was really fascinated by the root systems, almost like fairy tale trees that I've never seen before.” Koos van der Lende

Artist: Koos van der Lende

Collection: Water Pear Tree Collection

Signature Collection, limited edition of 25, signed and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity

Only 25 prints will ever be made, across all sizes together.
