baines-baobabs-morning
Baines' Baobabs | Morning

The Baines baobabs stand on a small outcrop between the pans of Nxai Pan in Botswana, named after the pioneer Thomas Baines. In summer the pans flood and the trees cannot be reached, so Koos van der Lende went in winter and stayed for a few days.

Close to the trees it felt chaotic and the cluster lost its shape, so he stepped back and went lower, making the dry grass in front the subject, lit from behind by the morning sun while the trees stand in silhouette. Koos calls this his art version. He darkened the sky a little and took out some of the colour, so the detail in the trees almost disappears, and the picture is all the quieter for it.

“A very beautiful area to visit, remote and serene, with elephants and other wild animals passing through.”
— Koos van der Lende

Artist: Koos van der Lende

Collection: Baobab Collection

Signature Collection, limited edition of 25, signed and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity

Only 25 prints will ever be made, across all sizes together.
